Whom do you want to reach with this book? A lot of them are more real, and I get to write my personal anxieties and fears and doubts in a totally different way where I get to explore that part of myself, much in the same way I get to do on the show, but in a very different format. I think that in terms of the writing in this book, a lot of the essays are not heightened in that way.

Abbi's this blubbering idiot, and it's so rare that someone rants all of this anxiety and fear out loud, so sometimes when they yell 'cut!' I'm like, 'what just happened?' No one really expresses all of their uncertainties and anxieties out loud like that, and I get to work some of that out through my character. I think the heightened version of me in Broad City - and this is something I love about my job - is that I get to play all of the anxiety, fear, and nervousness physically.

If I were to eventually write a non-poetry chapbook, I think my dream book would be one just like Abbi’s: silly, dramatic, and a little too honest, and I wouldn’t have hers any other way.So how do you compare the exaggerated version of yourself that we see you portray in Broad City to this heightened version we read in I Might Regret This? Abbi also added approximately three drawings of familiar topics after each chapter in I Might Regret This because she’s an artist by trade, which makes the book almost feel like a grown up picture book. She doesn’t only talk about love throughout the book though, but also dives into her relationship with comedy ( more specifically how she got into the business), her love for Ilana ( both fictional and real life versions), late night thoughts during different parts of the trip, and how her childhood shaped the adult she currently is. As someone who’s had a string of unlucky love encounters myself, I found Abbi’s honesty while discussing her heartbreak extremely appealing. She wrote the book on a cross country road trip as a collection of essays following a particularly difficult breakup while in the midst of writing the end of Broad City and I’m so thankful she published it. Abbi has been and is one of my favorite funny tv people since Brandon made me watch the pegging episode of Broad City when we were in NYC for 2019 “Thanksgiving.” Her humor in the show as well as in I Might Regret This is hilarious without trying too hard–the perfect combination of fictional and real life Abbis. I wrote a brief description of the book when I shared it with the other ones I received for Christmas and I’m glad I picked it as the first I read in 2020. One of my New Years Resolutions for 2020 was to actually start reading the dozens of unread books I have stacked on my bed shelf and I finally finished one! I think I Might Regret This by Abbi Jacobson is the first non school-related piece of literature I’ve read since…two years ago? I know, I’m truly embarrassed.
